| Alquézar, Somontano and Torreciudad |
Alquézar is one of the most beautiful and surprising places we can find in Huesca. When we arrive, first thing we see is a panoramic view of its Castle and the Colegiata, built on the top of a rock over the medieval village.
This Colegiata was consecrated in 11th century and still preserves part of its original structure. The castle from 11th century houses the remains of Santa Maria Magdalena Church and the watchtower, everything surrounded by the old walls. |
Alquézar was a strategic point of Al-Andalus. Muslims took advantage of its situation next to Vero River to turn it into the defensive bastion of Barbastro. Soon after 11th century Christians conquered the village allowing the settlement of the first Aragonese monarchs who conquered Saracen territories little by little. |
